Arts & Crafts: Desktop Pictures: Macintosh Help
Pictures:
Click and hold the mouse or control-click on the correct size for the picture of your choice. In the contextual menu that appears, choose Save this Link as... (Netscape) or click the size and on the full-size image that loads, control-click and choose Download Image to Disk (IE). (The normal location is Hard Disk:Apple Extras:Desktop Pictures.) Open the Desktop Pictures control panel and choose Picture. If you already have a picture on your desktop, click Remove Picture. Click Select Picture and locate the image you just saved. Click Set Desktop and you're done.
Patterns:
Click and hold the mouse or control-click on the pattern of your choice. In the contextual menu that appears, choose Copy (this) Image. Open the Desktop Pictures control panel. Choose Pattern and paste (Command-V). Click Set Desktop and you're done. If the tile is too big, the Desktop Pictures control panel will shrink it to fit. If you don't like the way it shrinks the tiles, follow the directions for Pictures (above) and choose Tile on Screen.
